My First Etsy Sale!

Hi All,

Selling on Etsy can either be crickets or a stellar marketplace. I have only been pursuing this market area for about a month and have not had the time nor the knowledge to fully put my focus into this but managed to get my first sale! Shoutout to my first gal who loved her coasters as seen below. She also was kind enough to write me a positive review too.! Whoo, go me!

Some of my first simple tips that I can give are:

  1. Make a product that you actually like making. So many people now are trying side hustles but I think some individuals may get stuck in the weeds and forget the fun and beauty in crafting.

  2. Find a way to make a net profit. If you can find something cheap and sell it for much more, wowza, you've got gold!

  3. Learn how to market. This is....the hardest thing that I've been learning how to do. Work on this!

  4. Take "professional" photos. My best advice is make it pop. If you don't want to eat it or aren't drooling by how amazing this looks. Then no one is going to want it either. Advice that I have read is "advertise it" or create a scene where this product would usually be = aka advertise it :). I know it's hard. We're all trying lol.

  5. Figure out a finished product before your first sale. However, do not spend a bunch of money testing if you can. This was something that I did a poor job at. I had gotten my first sale and my pictures were not that great. AND I did not have a finish to prevent scratches. Luckily, I did a bunch of research on what products would work best. And the first product that I bought worked great. Whew, I REALLY lucked out here as my pictures were technically different than my listing. I don't recommend this.

  6. Shipping....to offer or not to offer (free) shipping. I think this should be determined by that net profit that we talked about earlier. Kinda up to your discretion.

There is so much more that I would like to write on this consisting of the Etsy ads, SEO optimization, promotion of products, and overall marketing tips to ensure your product has the best chance of a sale. I will say that I still have much to learn but I will be adding and creating more blogs as I learn more!

**My only ask is that you use this information for YOUR OWN IDEAS. Kindly, no stealing!
